Social enterprises are businesses that use commercial tactics to generate profit to improve an aspect of society. They use the revenue from the sale of product or service to operate the business and fulfil their mission, in Thankyou’s case, to help end global poverty. For social enterprises to work, we need charities that are doing their life’s best work to create sustainable solutions that we can partner with.
This is how we see it – if you have $5 in your hand and wanted to make the biggest impact with your money, we’d tell you to give it directly to a reputable charity. But if you have $5 and need to buy some great personal care or baby care products, well that’s where Thankyou comes in.
We’re really excited to see the rise in social enterprises creating great products and services for consumers. With that rise, education is needed to communicate the difference between charities and social enterprises, and how we all work together. It’s not our goal to be a replacement for people giving money to a charity, it’s our goal to come alongside you and empower you to make an impact on poverty through your everyday purchases.
