At Thankyou, our breakthrough deodorant formula does not contain any Aluminium Chlorohydrate, which has come under much scrutiny and debate. Aluminium Chlorohydrate is a synthetic product often derived from natural sources but undergoes chemical transformation for commercial use. The debated issue with Aluminium Chlorohydrate is that there may be some health risks, considering that it is designed to be absorbed into your skin to block sweat glands.
In light of the new data provided, the SCCS considers the use of aluminium compounds safe at certain levels. Cancer Council Australia has confirmed that there is no link between aluminium and Cancer, and & Dementia Australia has confirmed little to no evidence between the use of aluminium and Dementia.
Regardless, the Thankyou Deodorant uses Potassium Alum, a natural mineral used as an alternative to Aluminium Chloride and Chlorohydrate. Instead of absorbing into the skin (because the molecules are too large to be absorbed through the skin), Potassium Alum sits on the surface of the skin, preventing the bacteria responsible for causing sweaty odours from multiplying, as it is naturally antimicrobial.
